What is speed reading and how does it work?

Speed reading is not "skipping" text. The goal is to reduce the number of stops your eyes make on a line, see a wider group of words at each stop and keep your comprehension while doing so.

What do our eyes do while reading?

Our eyes don't glide along a line; they jump and pause. Slow readers often stop at every word and even go back to re-read it. Speed reading exercises help you notice these habits and change them step by step.

What do the exercises improve?

  • Visual span: perceiving two, three or four words at a glance.
  • Eye muscles: less fatigue at line ends and page turns.
  • Focus: staying in the text without distraction.
  • Comprehension: remembering what you read while getting faster.

How soon will I see results?

Students who practise regularly usually see a clear increase in the first weeks. Short daily sessions of 15–20 minutes work much better than one long session a week.
